DIY Recipes for Healthy Hair

Does your hair need a pick me up? We’ve got some cheap, natural treatments you can try at home between appointments. These homemade masks are easy to prepare and made from ingredients you might even have waiting in your fridge or cupboard. Trust us (we’ve tried them), whatever your hair type, there’s a quick fix you can whip up without leaving the house.

Deep Cleanse: Strawberry Avocado Mask

Feeling greasy? This mask will deep cleanse and invigorate even the oiliest of scalps. It’s quick to make, works in under ten minutes and guarantees you’ll feel fresh and zingy in the hours that follow. Baking soda and vinegar team up to eliminate grease and product build-up, while strawberries soak up and regulate excess oil. Avocado will moisturise those dry ends to balance you out, leaving you looking 100% from root to tip.

Ingredients;

  • 6 strawberries
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Mash the strawberries, avocado and baking soda together with a fork until smooth. Slowly (it may bubble!) pour in the apple cider vinegar and mix. Coat the length of your hair with the mixture, starting at the roots and working down. Leave to sit for five to 10 minutes, before rinsing, washing and conditioning your hair as usual.

Nourish: Yoghurt and Egg White Mask

If your hair is weak and breakage is getting you down, you’re in need of some protein. This mask is packed with the stuff, to nourish your scalp and strengthen your hair right from the root – giving you lift, body and shine. While the dairy products coat and protect each strand, a hint of lemon juice will strip away product build-up and grease.

Ingredients;

  • 200ml natural yoghurt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Combine all three ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Set aside while you wash your hair as usual and rinse clean. Work the mixture into your hair, starting at the roots and working your way down. Wrap tightly and leave to work for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with warm water.

Moisturise: Banana & Almond Oil Mask

With just two ingredients, this mask takes less than a minute to whip up. Perfect for a last-minute pamper, it’ll soften and soothe dehydrated locks suffering from the effects of extreme weather or extended bouts of colour. This mask will leave your hair soft and sleek with plenty of natural bounce!

Ingredients;

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 tsp almond oil

Mash your banana in a bowl until smooth. Pour in the almond oil and give it a good mix. Massage into dry hair, paying extra attention to the ends. Leave to work for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing out, washing and conditioning as usual.
